• WSIA Scholarship Opportunity

    The Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association (WSIA) is a world-class member service organization representing the entirety of the wholesale, specialty and surplus lines industry. Learn more about WSIA here.

    Part of the Surplus Line Association of Washington’s Mission is to supply educational support to the members of the Association, including dissemination of information regarding laws, rules and regulations relevant to surplus lines insurance.

    We also support insurance education relative to surplus lines insurance in the State of Washington through sponsorship of training classes and seminars, or grants of money or expertise to educational institutions.

    Each year, the Board of Directors affords an incredible opportunity to our members for the furthering of their education and professional development.

    We are proud to announce that the Surplus Line Association of Washington is now accepting applications for the 2026 WSIA Scholarship Program.

    Scholarship recipients receive:

    • Full paid tuition to the WSIA Educational Program of their choice
    • $300 flight stipend
    • Reimbursement of other related travel expenses (ie. meals and Uber)

    Applicant Requirements:

    Must be employed with a Brokerage Firm Member of the Surplus Line Association of Washington & WSIA

    2026 Course Catalogue

    Excess & Surplus Lines June 14-17, 2026  • Chicago, IL 
    For all insurance professionals who are relatively new to the surplus lines industry or who have recently transitioned into E&S          
    Attendees gain solid understanding of the surplus lines marketplace, current issues and trends, and the roles of brokers, underwriters, program administrators, managing general agents and other players in the industry. At the end of the program, participants will be more knowledgeable about the surplus lines market.

    For E&S professionals with 5-15 years of surplus lines industry experience
    Attendees learn about wholesale distribution issues and best practices, industry regulatory issues, marketing, the claims process and the reinsurance impact upon the wholesale, specialty and surplus lines industry from professionals who bring years of expertise. Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of a company’s operations, armed with information that can be applied immediately to strengthen the individual’s contribution to the business.

    For E&S professionals at all career levels, including underwriters, brokers, technologists, managers and executives

    For insurance professionals new to or with limited surplus lines underwriting exposure or experience
    Designed for underwriters, brokers and those with binding authority to establish an underwriting foundation to enhance participants’ abilities to more quickly and effectively accomplish their work. With classroom facilitation, discussion and thorough case studies, participants will be more effective technicians at the end of the program.
